Train Up A Child
In the past year, I've discovered the joys of Amtrak. No, not the sitting around in a slightly scummy waiting area or the fact that the train is inevitably running late. I'm talking about the comfortable seats (comparatively speaking), the interesting conversations you overhear, and the fact that you can read the whole time because you're not having to drive. There's also the smug feeling you get for being "green" by saving gas. With the cost of fuel near four dollars a gallon, you might even be saving money.
Check it out.

The train is the way i've wanted to travel on my next big trip for a long time, but it's been a long time since i took a big trip. I considered taking the train to Charlotte for Heroescon, but then Philip offered to drive. It wouldn't seem convenient to take it to Grassroots fest in Snow Camp. If i ever get to SPX in Baltimore, the train would be a good option (though watching "The Wire" has made me leery of Baltimore). Here's a problem: there don't seem to be any trains going west. When i looked at taking the train to Arkansas, there was this huge lack of track between here and there. Ellis planned to go to Oklahoma by train, and the route was going to take him way up into Illinois before turning OK-wards.
